Personal Statement |
I am an undergraduate at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. I am pursuing a degree in Ecosystem Science and Policy as well as International Studies. I have always been interested in ecosystem science, and took AP Environmental Science as a junior in high school. I have volunteered with environmental conservation in the Galapagos, Ecuador, as well as on Alternative Spring Break in Tucson, Arizona. In spring 2009, I led an Alternative Spring Break trip to Marble City, Oklahoma to work with Native American issues, and now serve on the 2009-2010 executive board of Miami’s Alternative Breaks committee as Recruitment Chair. I have four years of tutoring experience with students of all ages as a private tutor and with the on-campus tutoring agency, and have completed my Level Two certification by demonstrating commitment to my work and investigating different educational learning styles. I have developed great communication skills and also have exceptional writing skills. During summer 2008, I worked as an intern for the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Office of Sustainability, helping the university revamp the program to be more accessible and dependable. I was recently accepted to a research assistent program at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences on Key Biscayne. Finally, I am a youth representative for the United Nations Environment Program’s Kick the Carbon Education Campaign, working to educate and involve students in more sustainable practices. These experiences have made me a good candidate for the position, and I plan to dedicate myself to my work as I have in the past. |
