About the Author
Mark Greenwood got started in tutoring years ago as a math
tutor in college. After graduation, he married and had a daughter.
Within a few years, he found himself involved in another type
of tutoring - homeschooling. He homeschooled his daughter
from the 3rd through 12th grade. She is now working on her
PhD in History.
For the past ten years Mr. Greenwood has taught math, part-time,
at a local community college. As an instructor, he has seen
first-hand how tutoring can benefit students. He has also
come to understand the differences in the role of a teacher
versus that of a tutor.
Most recently Mr. Greenwood has been involved in tutor training.
He is the tutor trainer at the Learning Resource Center (LRC)
at Cal Poly Pomona University. As such, he developed a certified
training program for LRC tutors. He has also presented at
ACCTLA, CRLA, and WESTOP conferences.
His background, experience with tutoring and teaching, and
quest for practical tutor training materials led to his book,
“Greenwood’s Guide for Tutors”.
